50 things I’ve learned: 5. Expectations and Accountability

My son Tyler is in 5th grade. In his classroom, there is a canvas on the wall that reads:

In our classroom:

We do Thank You’s

We do Real

We do I’m sorry!

We do Praise

We do Lots of tests

We do Laughter

We do Mistakes

We do Respect

We do Dreams

We do Working Hard

We do Learning

Now, imagine the title said “In our office.” Does that make it more difficult? Do we let our pride get the best of us?

As a leader (whether by title or actions), deciding what’s important is tough. Setting expectations is tough. Holding people accountable is tougher. Allowing people the space to dream and make mistakes and work hard and learn is really tough. It seems simple, but it’s not necesarily easy.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
