Once I heard a comment to another “How are you so mature?”

That didn’t sound right. So I asked how she knows if the person is mature and she gave several descriptions that one might relate it to as ‘maturity’.

“He’s able to stay calm no matter what.”

“He knows how to handle situations.”

“He has that quiet and thoughtful demeanor.”

As those descriptions were laid out, no one in the group voiced (nor implied) any form of objection. Maybe they aren’t interested in the topic. Or maybe they are too lazy to voice their opinion. Either way, I felt…

Emotional manipulation (also known as psychological manipulation) is the intentional evoking of a particular emotion in order to produce certain thoughts or behaviors. This may be implicit or explicit. The tendency to use emotions to sway others actually begins in infancy.

Studies have shown that babies as young as 6-months-old use crying as a way to emotionally manipulate their parents into either feeding them or playing with them.

This behavior continues into childhood, and into adulthood. It is important to note that some emotional manipulation is normal, healthy, and even expected as long as it doesn’t cause distress in the…

In my other post, I have explained bullying is defined as —
“One who habitually seeks to intimidate, harass, or otherwise harm other people who are perceived to be vulnerable in some way.” From other perspectives, bullying can be seen as a dominance of power. Either way, bullying has been an epidemic that has caused suicides literally. Yet, we know so little about bullying, the different types of bullying, and what we can do about them.

Here are some tips for dealing with different types of bullying in different contexts.

Physical Bullying

The most obvious and commonly illustrated form of bullying is…

Do you have an intense fear of something and thinking about it is the sign of anxiety? When you are developing a feeling of apprehension, dread or fear without clear justification, it is called anxiety. There is a difference between fear and anxiety which most of the people do not understand.

Fear is a response to an actual and clear danger such as affecting the physical safety of a person. Anxiety is the product of internal, subjective emotional conflicts and innocuous situations that is not clear to a person.

You might feel some anxiety that initiates daily; it is considered…

Have you ever seen someone getting assaulted? Have you ever seen someone get harassed, ridiculed, ‘punked’, or humiliated? Of course you have! We’ve all seen it! At some point in our lives, we’ve witnessed bullying. For some of us, we’re the victims themselves. This is an international phenomenon that has been seen on the internet, in schools, in the military, and even in the workplace. It’s important to understand that there is no age limit for bullies, and unfortunately, there’s no age limit to being a victim; anyone, anywhere is a target!

Once thought of as a “kid problem”, bullying…

In a way, time is similar to money. The term ‘fungibility’ in money means interchangeability. It doesn’t matter if I use this $2 note to pay for my drinks or another $2 note. The value in each note is the same. However, money is not really fungible. The same $1 would mean much more to someone starving than someone who is already wealthy.

The same is with time.

Each of us has 24 hours. While the unit time measurement is the same, the value of time itself is not. …

We all remember the stories from our childhoods, snow white, Cinderella, and of course, Beauty and the beast. These stories taught us that love is one of the most important things in life; That everyone has that ‘special somebody’, love conquers all, and no love story would be complete without the “happily ever after” ending. If this is so, then why are so many people reporting that they’re lonely?

An article in Psychology Today recently cited loneliness as an epidemic, and a 2012 American Community Survey reported that 39% of American men between the ages of 30–35 were unmarried, as…

Why confidence is key

Confidence is a great personality trait and it matters in almost everything you do in life. For starters, if you have confidence, you are going to appear more attractive in the romance department. People also tend to view extroversion as a quality of a leader. Even though we know better that confidence isn’t just about the appearance, but it is more about the state of mind.

For the handful of us, we know what it feels to live in constant doubt of ourselves. We wonder how others are able to so confidently make decisions and be so sure of themselves…

Petition to get deposit refund.

It is not news that oBike is closing its operations in Singapore.

Many of the Singaporeans are unsure if we can get back our deposits which amount to SGD 49 per user.

I personally have a deposit with oBike. However, I am not angry at not getting back the deposit but rather how oBike handled it.

oBike is one of the first few players who provided the bike share service in Singapore. They were the brave ones who overcame several challenges including facing social resistance for the services.

Given the hype, many aspiring entrepreneurs and upcoming companies look up to…

When I first started developing on the Ethereum platform, syncing a node was one of the first few things I did. With no one to hold my hand and nowhere to consolidate all the common errors I encountered, I wasted weeks just syncing a node. It was such a headache that I almost gave up.

Not knowing the terminology only made it harder.

And so, in this article, I want to consolidate all the common errors you might face and explain the reasons behind each step when syncing a node. …
