Why I Don’t Wear a Cycling Helmet

I’ve taken down this article because several people were upset by it.

The short version of this post is that helmet laws harm cyclists more than they help because they are designed to limit head injury rather than promoting safer cycling. Being well-lit makes you less likely to get hit, and full-head helmets such as skateboard helmets offer better protection than top of the head cycling helmets in case you do get hit.

One reader pointed out that his own life had been saved by a cycling helmet — illustrating how important it is to protect one’s head in case of an accident.

Cycle safely out there guys, and be sure to protect yourself against injury (I personally wear a skateboard helmet, not a cycling helmet).

We also have articles on how to avoid being hit by a car and what to do after you’ve been hit.
