I’m still waiting for you to describe the exact words from Bill Nye that you interpret as calling for all scientists who disagree with him to be jailed. This is a major issue for you, so taking the time to transcribe exactly which words of his you are referring to is hardly a side track; it’s central to your premise. Just hand waving while saying that you understand what he really means is NOT intellectual honesty. Quote his exact words, and we can have a honest discussion.

I’m asking you to quote the words in question because (1) If I transcribed parts of his speech, you might say “that wasn’t the part I was referring to”, so it’s better to let you choose which one you do reference to support your assertion, and (2) you are the one making the assertion that he has called for the jailing, citing this interview in particular as your justification, so the burden of presenting specific evidence (“which words?”) falls on you.

I am trying to give you the benefit of the doubt in asking this, assuming that you are sincere and honest in your assessment. Please prove me right. Take 10 minutes or less to find the specific words and quote them here.

I suspect that if you attempt that, you will find that your case isn’t very strong, and that if so you would be tempted to cut and run, rather than admitting that your evidence isn’t as strong as you remember it subjectively. You may doubt that and think my suspicition ill founded. If so, it’s very easy to make your point — just quote the words you believe support your interpretation. Failing to do so will not help your case. Thanks for your cooperation.

And by the way, if your quote DOES seem to prove your points, I WILL concede that. I have been wrong before, and I have admitted it. I am more interested in reasoning than in pretending to be right. Will you join me in that effort?
