A Blockchain is the record keeping technology backing Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It creates a faster and more secure way of storing data.

The “block” is where the digital information is stored (time, payments, locations, etc). The “chain” is a public database of blocks. Blocks stored in chains create a record or ledger. No one owns the blockchain, making it decentralized. Blockchains are run and distributed among the community members. So next time someone asks, say the blockchain is a distributed, decentralized, public ledger.
