Commentary 1: Communication Infrastructures in Media Ecology
Once there was a time when people used to wait for days to send a message and get a reply for it. Kings used to send messengers to give messages across the state. Where it was too expensive method of sending information, it also used to get a lot of time. It was the dire need of people to communicate quickly with each other. Graham Bell invented telephone and shortened the distance but still we were bound by wire. Humans took steps further and freed themselves from the wires and used air as a medium to transfer their information. With the rise in technological advancements, internet was introduced which further brought the world closer. But the communication of common people went to its zenith with the advent of web 2.0.
The introduction of social media brought the world further closer and people started calling it a global village. The lives of people which was before influenced by Kings and historic figures began to be affected by each other. The advent of social media changed the way people used to behave in normal circumstances. Too much dependence on social media for everything has led people to more mental health issues. It has been proven by various social psychology and sociology researches that with faster communication systems people have become farther from each other more than becoming closer to each other. The idea of mindfulness has totally vanished from the lives of the people. people tend to be more interested in what is happening around the world then what is happening around them. but where it has such drastic effects on the personal lives of the people, it has also brought some positive changes in the societies. Businesses are booming with an exponential rate and people are expanding their business to the while world.
