What if Bruce Lee Was a Bartender?

The guys over at Kuma Films asked “what if Bruce Lee decided he wanted to be a bartender instead of being a martial artist?” Well, we certainly got the answer to that in this amazing video that has us saying “Whoa!”

The Bruce Lee of Bartending — World’s Greatest Flair Bartender

The Huffington Post mentioned that “award-winning Taiwanese flair bartender Po Sheng Hsu has been in the costumed-and-choreographed drink mixing business for a while.” He has performed as Spider-Man in a number of competitions. Here are tips on how to flair like Spidey and Bruce Lee:

Study the basics

Know basic bartending terms and techniques like building a drink, muddling, stirring, shaking and layering. Learn alcohol types and cocktail recipes before venturing into more advanced techniques.

Spin the Bottle (and Glass)

The most common technique used in flaring is bottle and glass spinning. A bottle of liquor or a glass is spun around the hand. This technique involves hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination and agility. Wooden bottles and plastic glasses are available to practice on.

Juggle

Flairtenders must juggle multiple bottles and glasses at the same time. Train in juggling slowly by practicing with a bottle and a glass and then moving on to two or three.

Practice

Mastering skills and tricks isn’t done overnight, Train hard and practice the performance. Try to flair as neatly as possible without spilling.

Don’t forget being a bartender

Flair bartending must not prevent a bartender from doing his primary job of mixing and serving drinks.

Customer service

Don’t spill drinks, break bottles or spin near a customer. Beware of the safety hazards in breaking glass or setting drinks on fire (flaming).

Be certified.

Great bartenders know the law and abide by them. Bartender certification is available in various online institutions. It will teach state laws, handling intoxicated customers and dealing with minors.
