Was I bitter? Absolutely. Hurt? You bet your sweet ass I was hurt. Who doesn’t feel a part of their heart break at rejection. You ask yourself every question you can think of, what, why, how come, and then your sadness turns to anger. That’s my favorite part. It drives me, feeds me, and makes one hell of a story
I came across this quote when I was going through a phase in life where all I faced was rejection, mainly from jobs. But my focus is on the last part of this quote – it drives me, feeds me, and makes one hell of a story – this is IT. My story, your story OUR story.
Everything that happens makes your own individual story. The one thing that got me through my rejections was how awesome my story will be, how amazing will it be to tell people yes I went through my fair share of trials and rejections, yes I’m starting at the bottom in order to get to the top so I am able to tell people that everything is going to be okay
Trust me it’s always okay as long as you make it okay. You are completely in charge of your experience so please use it to your advantage no matter what you’re going through in your life.
My rejections for sure gave me thick skin and definitely made me so much more stronger as a person because I did not give up. The more rejections I keep on getting the more motivated I am to keep on going.
The reason why I focus on story is because every trial blossoms you in a way nothing else will. You learn so much about yourself and this was the first time I had to deal with my actual self – something I avoided for a long time.
Practically note – so you’ve received a rejection from a job you really wanted, of course you’ll be hurt, you’ll want to eat your feelings away, feel sorry for yourself, have a lil cry… you know what I mean, this is fine & normal – been there done that and it never helps.
What I advise is after you’ve done the above because we are human we will feel shit and there’s nothing wrong with that.
1) get feedback – this is sooo important in order to find out what went right aswell as where you went wrong
2) go out – go relax and enjoy yourself you will honestly forget about your crappy day. You may say to yourself I don’t deserve to chill because that’s how I felt, but let me tell you dealing with a setback and trial is wayyyy more courageous than dealing with a success.
3) do NOT give up – I applied for the same graduate programme in different areas 4 times because I wasn’t going to let one setback hold me down – we often give up so quickly when one thing doesn’t work out. It’s all a mind game. It’s up to you to train your mind to always see the bigger picture
4) know your worth – we all have a worth that most of us don’t bother to find because we are too busy feeding our capitalist world. Even after all my rejections I didn’t just apply for any job. I did pick and choose because there are some things I am just not going to do.
5) let go – there are some fields that are easier than others to get into, however that field may not be you. I had a fair share of interviews with recruitment companies and I never got past the first stage, however I kept going thinking the money is great and it’s something challenging. When I realised this isn’t for me and that I need to stop being greedy I pushed that sector away – I’m not going to beg a area of work that does not resonate with me just for the sake of having a well paid job.
So to conclude my thoughts all I literally have to say is in order to keep yourself sane and healthy it is necessary to always see the bigger picture – there is always a plan greater than ours.
Always believe in this plan and your capabilities
