How Much do you know about routers? most of our knowledge is confined to the fact that

routers are devices that help us use the internet which is true but do we really know what

your routers could do other than change the password? in this article, you will understand

what you can do with your routers.

  1. Internet curfew.
  2. Block Specific website.
  3. Block Unwanted devices.
  4. Create a wifi network for guests.
  5. File sharing across LAN(Local area network).
  6. Remotely manage your network.

Internet curfew

Internet could be a massive problem if you have kids who don’t like to sleep early at night

you might snatch devices from them but it’s not an ideal way to make things right. Instead,

you could manage your routers when to access the internet let’s see the steps

Network properties

Copy the Marked number and paste it into the browser

Step 1 Open your browser type IPV4 DNS NUMBER which you could find in your wifi property

Step 2 Go on the advance setting option and select the access control option to enable access control

Step 3 Choose policy and timing

every router has a different interface but the options you need to look out for are the same.

Block Specific website.

Option in your router called website filter, if you are in management and you doubt that workers often spent their time using social media or consuming porn or you are in your home and want to prevent your kids from using such sites, it’s just a few clicks away. enter your IP in your browser in features or in management you will find the option of website filter.

Block Unwanted devices.

once you are logged in to your router setting, look for clients connected or

network manager setting and block the unwanted device. Again most of the routers are different, and settings could be shuffled.

File sharing across LAN(Local area network)

This is one of the most brilliant features of your router and yet least of you know. You might see a USB port in your modern routers that is for sharing the data like photos and documents to the group. For this, you first need to enable your network discovery on your pc go to the control panel

control panel Network settings

Click on Network and sharing center

After that

Click on change advance sharing settings

Then turn on the network discovery

After that Network credentials go to the network USB setting and enable the file sharing.

For mac

Go to System Preferences > Sharing and turn on File Sharing and other services that might allow people to see your computer.

Create a Wi-Fi network for guests.

That may be the least wanted feature for most users but it’s essential if you have multiple

devices connected like TV’s smart home devices, file sharing system on your network with

guest network your friends could only use the internet they will not mingle with the

network on which your printer and TV are connected also it gives you uninterrupted

bandwidth for download and streaming. You can do it by going into the settings of your

router and in network settings, you will find guest network enable it by setting the separate

password and you are good to go.

Remotely manage your network

If you are the only geeky person in your home and unfortunately you are not

at home and a network-related problem kicks in but you can’t do anything about it because you are not at home, you might be thinking about your kids misusing the internet because daddy is not home. Don’t worry you can manage your home router even being far from your home just log in to your router and in the network setting, you

will see the option of remotely managing, enable it and type your IP address and login credentials and manage it from anywhere.
