The most viable alternative at this point is the Green Party. They are the only non-corporatist political party in the US that has established a national presence electorally.

WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO INCREASE ACCOUNTABILITY TO THE PUBLIC

The behavior of the DNC has been focused on preventing accountability on their part to their progressive voters — it also seems that, internally, the DNC has sought to flaunt this lack of accountability to its Bernie supporters — as if the goal is more to corral this group and demoralize it, rather than making use of their energy. A strong and visible Green Party would generate pressure on the Democrats to compete more vigorously in their practice in order to stop these voters from defecting. At the very least, a stronger Green Party would provide an outlet for progressives to impact the national conversation in the same way that the Sanders campaign had during the 2016 primaries.

WHY THE GREENS ARE THE MOST VIABLE PROSPECT

I think the call to start a new party outside the Greens is another attempt to undermine this energy. Surely these people know the long and arduous path that any third party must take to plow through the state by state obstacles and establish a national presence. It’s taken the Greens decades to become the fourth largest party in the US; over the years, they’ve already surmounted many of these hurdles — why would anyone informed about electoral politics suggest starting from ground zero rather than building on this achievement, unless their intention is to continue sabotaging such initiatives towards independence?

WHAT IS NEEDED TO BRING THEM INTO VIEW

At the very least, the Greens need to achieve at least 5 percent in their presidential campaign to qualify for matching federal funding, and 10 percent to get into the presidential debates. This should have been easy, considering the combination of the Sanders surge and the DNC mistreatment of this group. Even taking into account the Lesser Evil argument, the left media could have easily helped coordinate efforts in the 38 Safe States.

THE BIGGEST OBSTACLE — THE CORPORATE MEDIA

The biggest problem, of course, is the corporate media itself, which has proved very proactive and coordinated in shaping public opinion about their options, and actively feeding the narrative that the Democrats are the only way to go for non-Republicans.

Does anyone know of a media equivalent to HR 676’s Medicare for All bill — some kind of clear legislative proposal to restructure the industry, democratizing this vital resource and driving the merchants from the temple?
