World Chess Federation, FIDE, has announced its latest rating list, placing Azerbaijan’s Shahriyar Mammadyarov 2nd
Mamedyarov is the only male player who has won it more than once, winning the two-time World Junior Champion. He is a 2013 World Rapid Chess Champion, gold-medalist at the 2012 Chess Olympiad and three-time he won the team gold medal for Azerbaijan at the European Team Champion (2009, 2013, 2017). And he is also a two time winner of Tal Memorial (2010 and 2014) and Shamkir Chess tournament (2016 and 2017).
His personal trainer is his father, who is a former boxer. Mamedyarov has two sisters, Zeinab Mamedyarova and Turkan Mamedyarova, who are Woman Grandmasters.
