You know, I have never once heard of the jacarandas being referred to this way, although I did write of their significance to uni students in a tanka (which includes a couple of glorious photos):

Bushfires are a fact of life down here, and the fact that Sydney is at sea level – and in a hollow – often means the smoke will settle over the town, often for days. But the flipside to the fires is that devastation will also bring regeneration:

And when it comes to Australian songs of rain, the one that always comes to mind (despite the season change) is The Go Betweens “Spring Rain”:
