The Most Sacred Mantra in all of Kundalini Yoga

Mantras literally assist us in quieting the thought waves of the mind. Hence they are a form of meditation. Simply put, by focusing on a positive vibration (even when mired in the negative) we can reprogram our brains to get out of those negative loops.

The Muul Mantra (pictured above) is one of the most powerful mantras in Kundalini Yoga, the yoga of awareness. These sounds were the first sounds uttered by Guru Nanak (the first of a lineage of ten Sikh Gurus) after he had attained enlightenment. The sounds are said to be the primal sound currents of the universe, or the sound that formed all creation. The Muul Mantra translates to the “Root” Mantra. All other mantras in Kundalini Yoga are built upon this foundational mantra.

According to Yogi Bhajan, the Master of Kundalini Yoga, this mantra has such a powerful vibration that it can act as a “fate killer. It removes the fate and changes the destiny to complete prosperity.” That’s not that hard to believe this when we begin to realize that through Japa (repetition of Mantra) we are literally rewiring and reprogramming our entire vibration!

“In the beginning there was the Word, Word was with God, and Word was God.” “That’s all it is about. What is a word? Creative vibration.” “We meditate so that our minds can be sharp and alert. We chant mantras so that your souls may be ignited like candles. We walk in the light of this beauty.” “Mantras are not small things, mantras have power. They are the mind vibration in relationship to the Cosmos. The science of mantra is based on the knowledge that sound is a form of energy having structure, power, and a definite predictable effect on the chakras and the human psyche.”“Just see how powerful a mantra can be. All the stars and the Universe are very powerful, I am not disagreeing with the powers. But, by chanting a mantra, just see how powerful you can be.”“What is a mantra? Mantra is two words: ‘Man’ and ‘tra.’ ‘Man’ means mind. ‘Tra’ means the heat of life. ‘Ra’ means sun. So, mantra is a powerful combination of words which, if recited, takes the vibratory effect of each of your molecules into the Infinity of the Cosmos. That is called ‘Mantra.’” -Yogi Bhajan

It is easy to find musical versions of the Muul on YouTube and chant along! Try it for 11 times a day for 40 days. But you can use anything that is sacred to you. Prayer is just another form of mantra, so there might be a few uplifting prayers you want to give a whirl. Give it a try and see how your mental state begins to shift over time!
