Dubai is popularly known as the shopper’s paradise and one of the safest tourist destinations on earth. While you are on your journey and have quite few hours to spare during your stopover in Dubai and you are wondering what to do, then I suggest that you take look at these places that you must visit during your time here.

For most tourists travelling between Europe, Asia and Australia, Dubai is a frequent layover destination. Many travellers flying through the National Airline of Dubai “Emirates” opt for a 24 hour layover in Dubai to make the most of their time while here. The Dubai Airport is located in the centre of Dubai and has excellent transport connectivity with the entire city. Metro rides within Dubai are available. Also you have the fine option of either hiring a taxi or renting a car at the airport.

Though there are many sights to see in the city I would recommend these places that are close to the Dubai International Airport as practical and must see places as they exhibit the essence of this vibrant city.

Enjoy an iconic view from the Burj Khalifa:

Burj Khalifa

Opt to see the tallest building in Dubai. Comprised of two observation decks, you can book a ticket to view the observation deck “At the Top” on Level 148 which is the lower deck or on the higher deck “At the Top Sky” that stands at 555 metres (currently the highest deck in the world) . Interestingly around fourteen kilometres from the airport.

Stroll, Ski and Shop

Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates

With Dubai’s sweltering weather, you would feel better if you visit a cooler environment. You can take a snowboarding ride or go skiing or catch a chair lift up the icy slope or build a snowman and even meet the penguins at Ski Dubai-the first indoor ski resort in the Middle East. Ski Dubai is located in the Mall of the Emirates, just twenty minutes away from the airport. Finally when you are tired of ice all around you, you can head to the shopping mall for some interesting retail therapy or better still for some fine dining options. The Mall of the Emirates is the best destination among the shopping malls in Dubai offering you entertainment, shopping options, dining and much more.

Experience a luxurious stay at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah

Burj Al Arab Jumeirah

This sail shaped hotel is the third tallest hotel in the world and stands on an artificial island 280 metres from Jumeirah beach and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. The world’s most luxurious hotel offers you the finest service and experience from an optional chauffeur driven Rolls-Royce to helicopter trips. Specially designed gold I-pads are available for guests during check-in. Just twenty-two minutes from the airport.

Visit the Traditional Souqs

Souk Madinat

If you would like to experience a bit of the tradition and historical Arab culture then walking down the Souqs will take you there. Dubai Souqs offers you a more soulful shopping experience. Did you know that shopping in Dubai Souqs is so popular that some people book special flight packages including a layover and shopping tour. The Spice souq, perfume souq and the shiniest of them all- the Gold souq are places with wonderful bazaar like feel and the best part is they are just eight kilometres away from the airport. The plus side is you can bargain here.

Unwind at the World’s Busiest Airport

Dubai is got one of the nicest and neatest airports in the world. You can relax and refresh yourself at the airport. You can eat at a zillion places or shop at the duty free. Better still de-stress with a soothing massage at the spa facility. You can try the calming Zen garden or snooze off at the Snooze cubes.

In short, chill out before you take the flight.

Dubai is that perfect short stop.
