ATMs are the most poorly designed and thoughtless design of the modern century.

Here is why:

Some ATMs have cameras but those cameras are connected to sleeper screens. There is no emergency button you can press to alert someone on the other side.

There is not enough communication around the safety or vulnerability of using an ATM and what ATMs to avoid.

In South Africa if you are a foreigner you are even more vulnerable and frankly I think banks are not doing enough to alert visitors of the dangers of ATM fraud.

ATM fraudsters work in numbers of about 3 — 6 cars and with about 4–5 people per ATM. The ATM user/victim needs to be able to have assistant on demand at the ATM.

The card system is extremely vulnerable and had not yet caught up to the level of technology that is available. I should be able to stop my card and it should be able to have proximity sensors enabled with either my phone and it additional device like a card holder.

This is just the few ways the banking system could introduce a bit of IOT into their experience.
