5 Ways to Improve Your Listening Skills

I actually created a year-long listening curriculum to use with the eighth-graders I taught for several years in my English classes (I retired this past June). It was the first time most of them had been “taught” how to listen despite that we are engaged in that endeavor much more than reading or writing, yet those are the areas where the bulk of time is spent on instruction. With listening the basis upon which much of education is based, it is no wonder that the state of American education is one which many find appalling. By the way, most of my students progressed at a listening level which far exceeded the time spent on the curriculum.
