Monday Motivation // Revival After Rest

Good morning everyone and welcome to another work week. This is the first Monday of 2016 and the first serious work week since the holidays. If you are like me you might be having a hard time adjusting. After all that rest and celebrating it can be a bit of a shock to go back to the mundane and routine.

It can be hard to step back into the real world.

I am trying to remember that most of this is mental and with the right attitude I can get back to it with very little fuss. I am trying to remember that all that rest was for a reason, so I could come back to work with a fresh mind and new resolve to get shit done.

“There is revival after rest.”

During my break, I spent the majority of my time at home. It was nice to be with my girlfriend and pretend I had no responsibilities and there was no one else in the world but me and my girlfriend. It was nice to go to bed and wake up when I felt like it and not when I had to. It was nice to wear pajamas all day and lay under comfy blankets reading and watching TV like that’s what I get paid to do.

But the time has come to stop resting and to get back to work.

To rest beyond what you need is the definition of laziness. It sounds nice in theory but whenever I am too lazy I get irritable and restless. I have pent up energy that has nowhere to go. I know I need something, I need to get out, I need to make something, be something, I need a purpose, I need to interact with people.

Resting too long is actually detrimental to my mental health and my feelings of belonging in this world.

I’m trying to remember that so maybe coming back to work won’t feel so bad. I’m trying not to be miserable and negative. I’m trying not to look back on the last two weeks with longing.

Rest is for renewal. Rest is for coming back with a clear mind and rejuvenated body.

Rest is for getting back to work.
