American Apparel, Deal Points 2015-2016
I am thinking of putting the above down on paper, but I am at a loss at the moment. Should I publish our ideas so a faltering brand that tried to media-murder its own founder can perhaps poach ideas from the page? While that is 60% a tounge in cheek statement, it has some elements of truth to it. Regardless, if I did (write about it) it would be lite on Dov- outside his business acumen and strategies- as this was a takeover and even the most abstract of idea points conformed to a certain code of unification, a certain standard of project excellence. Plus, Dov was very serious about the deal and it was an emotional time.
Takeover strategies and implementations are really magical once they are deployed. Even more so when correct. If it is a miss, or in our case taken before a judge, it is a total let down, but there are back up plans, plan B’s, etc. In this deal we didn’t have a single bad guy on our internal team. There were a few assholes here and there, but no one directly involved. I guess my initial thoughts are: some deals shrivel up and die and there is little left of the original, others go on lingering, posted to the big board like a stripe of paint on a wall.
