The fact that Reddit is anonymous simply brings out the worst in people. Social etiquette and simple human descency goes out the window. And the responses are guided by a serious herd mentality. One well-written, witty comment that bashes your article will turn into a rallying cry of all the other users, not because they agree, but because they found the comment witty and, it already has 20 upvotes so God forbid they express a different opinion. Those who do will be down-voted, personally denigrated and quickly decide to never try to express a different opinion again. I love Reddit. I go on it every day. But the loud minority rules and I quickly learned that posting any of your own articles on it is a recipe for disaster. If you can stand a lot of personal abuse, then my recommendation is post only to very specific subreddits. These are less likely overrun by the social minority and you’ll get better feedback that’s like-minded. But personally, I’ve had much better luck on StumbleUpon in terms of getting my articles consistently to a larger audience.
Should you use Reddit to promote your articles?
