Yesterday, a group of my friends came to my home for my birthday party. When they asked for my WiFi password, I realized that I had forgotten it. My phone and laptop still can connect to the Wi-Fi network, but I can’t share the password with others. Is there a way to recover my WiFi password from my Windows 10 laptop or phone?”

If you have the same problem, don’t worry. Since your laptop still can connect to the Wi-Fi network, that means the laptop has remembered your Wi-Fi password, so you can retrieve the Wi-Fi password from the laptop (Windows 10, to be precise). Here I would like to share two simple and effective ways to quickly recover a forgotten WiFi password in Windows 10.

Way 1: Recover forgotten Wi-Fi password from Network Properties

Step 1: Make sure your Windows 10 computer is currently connected to your Wi-Fi network.

Step 2: Open the Run dialog using Win + R keys, then type in ncpa.cpl and click OK.

Step 3: This will take you directly to the Network Connections in Control Panel. From here you can see all your currently connected networks. Right-click on the Wi-Fi network and select Status from the context menu.

Step 4: When the Wi-Fi Status dialog opens, click the Wireless Properties button.

Step 5: When the Wireless Network Properties dialog opens, select the Security tab and tick the Show characters option, so you can clearly see your Wi-Fi password.

Way 2: Recover forgotten Wi-Fi password using a third-party tool

For those who did not check the “Automatically” option when connecting to the Wi-Fi network, or those who are currently unable to connect the computer to the Wi-Fi network for some reason, the first way does not work and they need to use a third-party Wi-Fi password recovery tool to retrieve the forgotten Wi-Fi password from Windows 10.

Step 1: Download and install a reliable WiFi password recovery tool on your Windows 10 computer, such as WiFi Password Refixer.

Tips: WiFi Password Refixer is a simple but professional WiFi password recovery tool that is used to find saved Wi-Fi passwords and recover forgotten/lost Wi-Fi password from the Windows machine. It enables the user to retrieve the passwords of all Wi-Fi networks that were connected to the computer in the past, and export all Wi-Fi usernames and passwords to a *.txt file for backup or easier viewing.

Step 2: Run this tool. It will immediately find out all Wi-Fi passwords that were entered on the computer and display them on the screen.

Step 3: You can see the Wi-Fi password directly on the screen, or you can click the Save button to export the passwords to a *.txt file for backup.

Final Words:

These are two simple and effective ways to recover a forgotten WiFi password in Windows 10. As you can see, they are very practical and much easier than getting back your Wi-Fi password by resetting your router, especially for computer novices.
