Cube Project

1.

today i took time to figure out all the different ways i could fold cubes with scrap cardboard, and what would be the most effective. I ended up with about three reasonable methods after a few hours, and in in the future i will begin to work on making a more durable/finished stencil in order to make them more uniform.

the first method i used was the most “traditional” understanding of a cube- the basic, “t” shaped formation that was then glued and folded together. in order to make sure that all of the sides were uniform as possible, i measured out individual squares on the cardboard by using post it notes and then cutting them out.

the next method was another no brainer, “traditional” setup for a cube- i cut out six individual 2x2 squares and then glued them together. this proved to be the most ineffective method, however, as it was really hard to regulate all of the sides and make everything even as the sides were small enough that tiny differences in size were very obvious, but hard to shave down with the exacto knife.

the third and final method was having an 8 inch strip and making partial cuts every 2 inches along the front, then folding them into a 4 sided cube and gluing two additional squares for the top and bottom. while the first method was, in my opinion, the most effective one that i used, this one came in a close second and only lost points because it was hard to maintain consistency and the folded sides looked different from the cut sides.
