CS373 Spring 2022: Week 14 Ziyi Zhao
What did you do this past week?
I finished my final project for my data mining class. Meanwhile, I played did some review to prepare for the data mining final exam next week. Other than data mining, I formed group with other classmates in my computer graphics class to start working on the final project for my computer graphics class. Last but not least, I also refractored web project and made a powerpoint for presentation next week.
What’s in your way?
We have not completely finished the web project, and our group is the first one to present in class on the first day of presentation week. Besides that, I need to review a lot in order to do well on the final exam for my data mining class. Although I’m a senior and I’m able to graduate based on my current grade, I still want to get a decent grade before graduation.
What will you do next week?
I’ll probably do some review for my data mining final exam. Besides that, I’m going to start working on my final computer graphics project with my group members and also wrap up the web project. After doing all the school work, I think I’ll play some video game with my friends later that week.
What did you think of Paper #14: The New Methodology?
I think the paper mentioned a good point on the difference between engineering and coding. It costs less if we plan a lot before constructing in engineering than that in coding. Therefore, I think the new methodology is something we can accept as a programmer.
What was your experience of refactoring.? (this question will vary, week to week)
Refactoring means redoing the code that we implemented to make it easier to extend and maintain. I’ve never done any refactoring after writing a piece of code, since my goal is to make my code work rather than optimizing it. However, I think I’m going to do refactoring a lot after going into the industry, since there are requirements for the code we write.
What made you happy this week?
I’m happy that I only have 3 weeks before I graduate.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
I took Competitive Programming class last year. I’m not sure if this class is open, but I highly recommend that class, which I think it’s really helpful for your technical interviews. Those who teach that class are also the ones who hold UT programming contest. They explain things really well, and you will learn a lot and have fun solving coding problems. I know I did.
