The list of great underrated animes
many people know naruto bleach and onepiece , less people know about these awesome animes that are also great, if not better than those really mainstream and popular ones.
In no particular order are my selection of the some of the best most under-rated animes that you should definitely check out.
Do note that this is a list of anime that i personally have enjoyed, some of my favourite genres include comedy, action, romance , and of course quality animation.
Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou /Dog & Scissors
Dog & Scissors centers around Kazuhito Harumi, a high school boy who is obsessed with reading books. One day, while reading in a cafe, he is shot and killed when he attempts to protect a random stranger. As he is determined to read his favorite author’s unreleased last work, he gets a second chance and is reincarnated as a dachshund dog.
Although it may seem pretty strange at first, but this unnatural set-up really creates many ridiculous scenarios that will have you laughing!
The manga focuses on the (mis)adventures of Kaimei High School’s campus support club, the Dedicated to the general improvement of campus life, the Sket Dan is devoted to solving any & all problems submitted by the staff or student body. However, due to its general lack of meaningful assignments & the unglamorous reputation of being just a ‘group of handymen’, the Sket Dan is treated with widespread contempt and it is composed of only three members.
Sket Dance is a light-hearted comedy that is not afraid of breaking the fourth wall and making references to other popular anime, if you are an avid anime fan you’d be pleasantly surprised by some of the references that they make.
Oda Nobuna no Yabō
Suddenly finding himself in the Sengoku period, average high school student Yoshiharu Sagara is about to be killed on the battlefield. He is saved by none other than the man who would later become the respected Hideyoshi Toyotomi, but at a cost of the latter’s life. With the course of history altered as a result of these events, Yoshiharu tries to make things right again. Yoshiharu soon discovers that, in this version of the Sengoku period, Nobunaga Oda does not exist — instead being replaced by a young woman named Nobuna Oda who holds his position as a daimyo. Yoshiharu begins working under Nobuna’s command, with hopes of correcting the course of history and finding his way back home to the present-day world.
I really love animes that have ridiculous settings, a modern day history buff thrown into the historic time period he so dearly loves leaves him amazed and with the knowledge of how events were going to unfold, he becomes the trusted guide of the female version of the one who would come to unite japan, beautifully animated and lightly based in Feudal Japan this anime is a must watch for those interested in Feudal Japan! The stories are clevery crafted with many twists and turns and even a few tear jerking scenes, it is an anime I highly recommend.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Gurren Lagann takes place in a fictional future where Earth is ruled by the Spiral King, Lordgenome, who forces mankind to live in isolated subterranean villages. The plot focuses on two teenagers living in a subterranean village, Simon and Kamina, who wish to go to the surface. Using a mecha known as Lagann, Simon and Kamina reach the surface and start fighting alongside other humans against Lordgenome’s forces.
This is an anime of epic proportions, although at a glance it may seem like yet another mecha anime but it is filled with many great moments which will move you and also many moments which will cause you great sadness, without going into details this anime is hands-down one of the hidden gems of the anime world , trust me just watch this, the anime style may be a little funky but you will find yourself getting accustomed to it. Prepare a box of tissues if you do intend to watch this though.
Mugen’s a buck wild warrior — violent, thoughtless and womanizing. Jin is a vagrant ronin — mysterious, traditional, well-mannered and very strong as well. These two fiercely independent warriors can`t be any more different from one another, yet their paths cross when Fuu, a ditzy waitress, saves them from being executed when they are arrested after a violent swordfight. Fuu convinces the two vagrant young men to help her find a mysterious samurai “who smells of sunflowers.” And their journey begins. This is a story about love, friendship and courage… NOT!
Highly stylistic and well planned, this anime has a ton of foreshadowing and is rather unique in this crowded field of anime, it throws two very strong main characters together and shows how their relationship develops while they’re on a journey together , it is a masterpiece that is very wonderfully executed and will leave you wanting more once you’re done with it’s 26 episodes!
This brings us to the end of the list , these are some of my favourite animes that i wished had gotten more popular and that i honestly believe have great stories and moments , this list is by no means exhaustive and i may write another list if the response to this is good.
