How Two Years as a Vegan Changed Me
It all started as a way to support my friend in her most recent “life changing diet”. However I soon realized it would be life changing for the both of us.
What I thought would be a few months of withholding all animal products turned out to be two years of a new lifestyle. Being vegan is great, and I admire all who do it
I of course, did not do it correctly.
For the first few months I reveled in the fact that I had lost 20 pounds! I felt accomplished, I felt like a good friend, but I also truly felt terrible.
I was not losing weight because I had switched to a healthier diet, I was losing weight because I was avoiding all the possible food options I had. Smoothie for breakfast, beans and rice for lunch, and a fruit for dinner. It seemed almost impossible for me to eat the amount necessary for me to feel satiated. I had no idea how to properly fuel myself as a vegan, and yet I stuck with it for two years.
Now, how did two years as a Vegan change me? Well, when one day my body started rejecting all food that entered me, when my menstrual cycle became erratic and sparse, I had finally felt changed enough to recognize the consequences of my actions.
When you do anything in life that can affect your health a great amount, research it, try it, but do it correctly.
