Daily, Weekly, and Monthly To-Do Lists of the Successful Artist
If you want to succeed as an artist then you’re going to have to work for it, but first you will need a plan to keep you on track. How are you currently making progress towards your long term goals each and every day? Here are some fairly easy tasks that won’t take up much time and can drastically increase your chances of becoming successful. Put reminders in your phone if you have to, it’ll be well worth the effort.
• Make a short to-do list for each day the night before
The shorter and less overwhelming the list is, the more likely you are to stick to it, get everything done, and feel accomplished at the end of the day. Even a small amount of progress is better than feeling overloaded and defeated. If your expectations are too high, you’ll never be able to get as much done in a day as you’d like, so start off slow and get a realistic expectation of how much you can actually complete. The first goal is not to get a lot done, but to get into the habit of creating a to-do list that you can stick to and complete each day.
• Draw/create something everyday no matter how small, quick, or simple it may be
It’s great to practice your skills, and small projects can supply regular content to post to your social media accounts.
• Encourage another artist by commenting on their work
How can you expect someone to check out your work if you’re not willing to do the same for others? A comment a day keeps the artist community a more friendly and positive place. This can also be a great way to network within the artist community.
• Post your work on all of your social media channels
Don’t let all that work you put into developing your following go to waste because you were forgetful or lazy and neglected it. The hardest part is not getting started, but keeping your following actively engaged.
• Find a few new artists to follow on social media channels
Staying inspired and exploring new ideas is crucial to your creativity.
• Find a new blog to read
Download a blog post aggregator app to see posts by all the blogs you follow in one place. This is a great way to keep track of what’s new in the art world, and keep track of places you can submit your work to.
• Make a long term to-do list with the bigger picture in mind
Develop a plan and a strategy for new things you’re going to try (giveaways, ads, craft shows, etc.) and reevaluate what’s working and what’s not on a monthly basis.
• Submit your work to art publications
The more you can get your work in front of others, the more opportunities will come your way.
To-do throughout the year:
• Update your online presence
Create and refine your avatar and header images to keep them consistent throughout all social media channels.
• Host a giveaway
Give away some of your work to help grow your following. You can allow participants to gain entries through simple actions, such as liking your Facebook fan page.
• Go to some creative conventions and fairs
Set up a booth to advertise and sell your work, or simply walk around and talk to other artists.
The easiest way to be successful in the art world is to simply be present in the art world, so always try to expose yourself to new ideas, meet new people, and stay productive.
