Hackathon References ~ ETHBerlin Instructions
A guide to collecting hackathon references from team-mates for your new decentralised identity.
The objective of Zinc being used as an official dApp at ETHBerlin is for attendees to take proofs of what they’ve learnt and achieved over the weekend home with them. Zinc will be deploying mainnet ERC725 identities & ENS subdomains to the ETHBerlin participants. Start building your decentralised identity by adding work claims this weekend.
Steps for ETHBerlin hackathon attendees
Attain ERC725 identities, ENS subdomains, and references from your weekend hacking.
- Sign-up to: https://zinc.work/ with Metamask. This creates an ENS subdomain for you and deploys your identity contract to the network. Use a company email for validation where possible.
- On your profile, click the “Request reference” button. Complete the form, entering your hacking team-mates name and email as the referee, (company = ETHBerlin).
Wait for your reference to appear on your profile, prompt your team-mate if necessary. Click on your account (bottom left) to see the link to your identity contract.

The video below demonstrates the rest of the reference process. This is the reference providers journey and not required for the ETHBerlin bounty. Your reference provider doesn’t have to be signed up to provide the reference. They have to the option to sign-up if they want to claim the Zinc token reward. Use a company email wherever possible since the email domain will be exposed on the reference.

I have my 725 & ENS subdomain, what shall I do now?
Your ENS subdomain is acting as the management key for your 725 contract. Your personal ERC725 contract is deployed on the main Ethereum network — you control. You can add/remove keys to the contract — since currently you can only interact with your ENS subdomain associated keys. Or you can add/remove identity claims to your new identity!
- You may wish to change the set of keys pointing to your ENS subdomain. Set a resolver for your subdomain, so you can receive funds at this address. Or you can reverse resolve the record for your ENS subdomain to be visible on other compatible dApps. Read more here: http://docs.ens.domains/en/latest/userguide.html?highlight=subdomains
- You can start interacting with your new identity contract by starting to associate claims to it. The contract is built in a self-sovereign fashion, so you can self-attest claims or ask others to attest for you. There are lots of teams working on ERC725 compatible projects. Via Zinc’s UI, you can add work-based identity claims to your contract.
