Introduction
Hello, My name is Zach and I am a senior CS major here at Notre Dame. I originally came to Notre Dame as a physics major but after 6 weeks of realizing I really didn’t like physics enough to pursue it for 4 years, I made the switch to CS and haven’t looked back. I can’t help but spend a ton of time of my computer but outside of that I am an amateur musician, a golfer, a reader, and a pretty below average oil painter.
I’m hoping that this class will provide some new insights on how to think about what is going on in the world of computer science. I try to keep up to date with all of the current news surrounding this field, but I am interested to hear other perspectives that people have about the events that affect computer scientists and engineers.
The current atmosphere of CS seems to be revolved around two issues, which stem from the same concept: automation. Not just any type of automation, but automation as it relates to the creation or loss of jobs, and therefore the current and future political climate, and automation as it relates to the preservation of human life. These are issues that the class should focus on as it will certainly entertain some lively and often heated discussion.
