A few quotes I’ve been pondering

Here are a few quotes that I’ve been pondering recently:
- “If you’re not happy with what you have, you’ll never be happy with what you get.”
“This time will be different” postulations rarely pan out. Deferring happiness for one more thing or some moment in the future is a tough game to play. What’s to say that next thing will be enough? It usually isn’t.
2. “The only perfect moment is now. How does it feel?”
Now is the only moment you can feel. “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle is a great read and has heavily influenced my thinking on this idea.
You can’t taste dessert when you’re eating dinner. So focus on enjoying your dinner, then focus on enjoying your dessert when the time comes.
This applies everywhere, not just to food. How many times are you thinking of something else while doing another task?
This happens to me while I’m teaching my tennis camp and I do my best to catch myself. Instead of enjoying being on court, I’m thinking about how fun it will be to surf later in the day. This is bad on two fronts: I’m not giving my full self to the students AND when I’m surfing, my attention will be on the next thing! This type of thinking isn’t good preparation, it’s separation from enjoyment.
This quote reminds me to take a minute to feel the now and enjoy it because now is the only moment we have.
I’ve been taking a mini break from intense self improvement podcasts and really enjoying this one: The History of Rome by Mike Duncan

I still love the Tim Ferriss Show and podcasts like that during the day time, but on nights and weeks I’m working on taking my mind off constant productivity and learning about the history of Rome.
