Interesting. So Epicurus understands clearly that we quickly become habituated to whatever stimulus causes us pleasure (the new iPhone), but don’t we equally become habituated to the stimuli that cause us pain (having to work for the money to buy the phone)?

Or what about temporal effects? If I get a sunburn picking strawberries and I’ve eaten all the strawberries but am still suffering the sunburn, did I make a bad decision? What if I freeze some of the strawberries and am enjoying them months later when the sunburn is a distant memory. Did I make a good decision?

I don’t think its so easy to apply rationality to pleasure/pain.
