Amber Teething Necklaces
It seems that raw amber teething necklaces are the newest fad, likely to the delight of folks in the Baltics looking desperately for any way to make a little money these days.
Fact or fiction? The science behind using amber as a natural pain relief is pretty thin, although there is some science underlying the idea.
Amber has been used for thousands of years as a natural pain reliever, most commonly in necklaces used for teething babies.
One important note: amber teething necklaces are designed to be kept in contact with the skin and not to be chewed on.
Baltic amber contains very high levels of succinic acid, which has been tenuously linked in some research as to a possible pain reliever as an external analgesic.
Tenuous is key there, as no real research has been done into any of these areas.
