Why do so many activists commit suicide?
Kate Raphael

Almost all of my movement peers are suffer from depression, PTSD, and / or chronic illness. I think the idea that the world is ours to fix, compounded with the violence we face when doing any activist work that gets traction… and then realizing after your first, second, or third violent encounter with LE that you can’t take it anymore is deeply depressing. We also generally look to take care of others before ourselves… that results in bad health, nutrition, little exercise. If I were to do it again I would make sure I was nurturing myself and everyone around me as much as possible. We do not speak enough on how much state violence impacts your life, especially for those who think its on them to make the change.
