Startup Thailand 2017
Startup events have been held frequently in Bangkok. I joined occasionally depending on venues and my schedule. This is the first time for me attending the biggest startup event I’ve ever been before. Although it’s a shame that I only had 2 hours wandering here, I was impressed by many fascinating ideas and people!

Most of the times I go to this kind of event, I usually go there with my entrepreneurial boss and sometimes myself alone. This time he asked me to go there with my colleague, a disciplined software developer. We’ve been friend for years and working together in some projects.

Startup boots are organised by categories e.g. Fintech, Urbantech, Healthtech, Edtech and Traveltech. I just realised later that keynote speakers here are very interesting and obviously I missed the chance to participate their keynotes. Hope I can find videos eventually soon! I went there on 7 July so I only saw Fintech pitchings on stage. Some of startups have launched for a couple of years and their names are already in market. It’s good though as I heard a lot about them but I don’t know in details much. So this is a really good chance to see products’ owners and staff presenting vision, product and financial insights.

Traveltech is my main interest because I’ve been working with big OTA clients for years and these startups are growing aggressively. They’re very good at what they are doing and aiming to solve real users’ problem. The main business trends I noticed are ‘sharing’ and ‘renting’ properties, not only a house, a room, a car and even a luggage. After I quickly browsed through these websites and apps, I found that design and system are OK yet quite normal, meaning that they’re user-friendly. The problem is how to get people to know and use these services. They would need a strong marketing and branding to support their growth. More importantly, how these services can gain trust from Thai people to use them. However, these services might suit global scale where people are more likely to pay attention to startup businesses.

The highlight for me is Stockredar — their product lines are very famous . I literally know nothing about stocks and trades. I randomly saw their boot and a staff was demonstrating how to use their app on ipad pro. The stock page UI really caught my attention at first as well as my colleague’s. Since we’re developing banking service now and we’ve been suffering from data visualisation and management. Stockredar UI and UX are insane. Its function is incredible although this is the first time I use it. The complicated data and information are well organised and designed for both beginner and hard users. I was super impressed. I asked their CEO about why Stockredar is very well designed and detail oriented. Then he said…
“Because of most of my team are really into stocks. I also have a strong passions about it. I always seek for the best solution. I want this app to be like xxx (I don’t know it but assuming that it’s the best financial app for him).

Since I’ve never used this kind of trading app before, it may sound exaggerated. Maybe there’re plenty of stock apps in the market already. However, what I really got from Stockredar is about passion and making it substance. Genuinely, this is what I’m aiming to do so!
