User research: survey or interview

An interview is like looking at the night sky and seeing all the complex patterns. A survey is like looking through a telescope: you get a fine-grained image, but only about a tiny-tiny fraction of the whole picture. And you need to know in advance where to point your telescope, or you will end up seeing nothing at all.
