Totally agree with Grayson — and I’ll emphasize, the hybrid approach is definitely a winner. I lead a team of Data Scientists who are embedded within a Design team, as a peer org of Design Research. The partnership between Data Science and Design Research definitely helps to cultivate hypotheses in cases where the product owners may not have a specific question to ask. In the year that we’ve been active, we’ve started coordinating joint investigations (with different methodologies), and the product teams we support have responded with a level of enthusiasm I haven’t seen in my 10 years prior as a Design Researcher.
