I think you can compensate for them. You can optimize your exposure to luck, and genetic differences are overrated. Naturally, not everyone can be a professional basketball player, but most of us can do far more than we think, especially when it comes to training our mind.
In my case, by my own estimate, I got dealt a pretty bad draw on the “grit, determination, willpower, and motivation” lottery. Worse than anyone I can think of at the top of my head. That said, I have been able to make up for it by educating myself and then experimenting with different strategies.
