The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, seperated by short breaks. (Wiki-pedia) Cirillo named this technique pomodoro on the tomato-shaped kitchen timer that he used to manage his time as a university student.

This method is very simple. Each 25-minute session is called one “pomodoro.”When you complete one, take a 5 minute break before moving to the next. In that way, you have to complete four pomodoro’s to complete a task. Research shows that this technique can actually enhance your focus when you return to the task you were working on.

How to use Pomodoro Technique

Step 1: Check your schedule.

Step 2: Set your timer.

Step 3: Work on your task, and only that task.

Step 4: Take a short break.

Step 5: Continue your work sessions and take a longer break.

As Robin Sharma said,

“ Time management is life management.”

I was in search of conquering procrastination and felt extremely happy to know about this technique. As I had to do an online course, for which I want to avoid distractions and manage my time properly. So, I decided to apply Pomodoro technique. It was almost a 2 hours long course. I set an alarm for a specific interval.

As I started the course it rang after exact 25 min., and then I stopped doing course and had a break for 5 min. And then again started doing it. I repeated that process for three more times until the course was completed. It helped me a lot in managing my time. It felt bit difficult as I used to take breaks before applying that technique, but that were not after specific intervals of time.

Pomodoro technique is basically a time management philosophy. I will apply this in doing other tasks as well. It makes us able to manage our time and to conquer procrastination and get back to work. Procrastination can drain your focus and productivity because you only have limited time for doing work. As highly focused work sessions help you manage your time more effectively, and large projects seems less overwhelming.
