Going the extra mile is something not every one do but who do that is definitely more near to success. To excel in every field of life and achieve the desired things this step is crucial. Going the extra mile makes you stand out from a crowd pursuing the same thing as you are. The best thing about going the extra mile is described by Roger Staubach as:

“There are no traffic jams along the extra mile.”

Here is the story how I went extra mile.

In person drop Resume and Cover Letter

I was looking for an internship in some media house so I thought to drop off Resume and cover letter in a media channel. I decided to go to Dunya News channel and before going there followed these steps:

  1. researched the channel
  2. customized my cover letter
  3. rehearsed elevator pitch
  4. remembered some names in the channel
  5. selected a professional attire

After doing all this preparation, went for channel. The receptionist let me in and referred to a person of HR department because I told him name of a person i knew in that channel, Wahab, who once came in our department for auditions. After some time finally I was able to meet that person. I gave my elevator pitch, provided my Resume and cover letter and showed my passion for the channel.

That person could not set a date for interview but said that he will provide me with follow up soon. After getting back, I wrote a thank you email as a follow up to that person. That experience was a great one. I learned so many things from that experience, my confidence level boosted and now I am looking for dropping off resume to other channels as well. I am not sure I will get a call for interview or not but this experience gave me confidence of going extra mile.

Come out of your comfort zone, explore things, go extra mile and enjoy success.

Do more than is required. What is the distance between someone who achieves their goals consistently and those who spend their lives and careers merely following? The extra mile.
