One of the explicit promises of Trump — which was commented on in this piece — is a return to the former glory of the manufacturing sector in the US.
I have news for you both; those jobs aren’t coming back because the economics of that sector don’t make sense.
Rather than lamenting over shifting economics and extractionist practices in capitalism, finding new ways to incorporate technology-based solutions (specifically, service-oriented software solutions), into new or existing companies might be a more beneficial approach.
Change is hard. Learning new skills can be a challenge, but wishful thinking around “the good old days” isn’t doing anyone much good.
