This Is Your 5 Point Action Plan For Resisting The Trump Administration

I was in a coffee shop two blocks away from the offices of Senators Chuck D. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand waiting for the #ResistTrumpTuesday rally when the notification lit up my phone. Donald Trump had just signed an executive action that could restart construction on the Dakota Access Pipeline. With the stroke of his pen, the blood, sweat, and tears of Native Americans and their allies had just been swept away.

It was disheartening and infuriating. Yet, sadly, not a surprise in the slightest. Donald Trump is a man who values profit over people and has no objections to signing away funding for international aid groups that have the audacity to let people make rational decisions about their pregnancies. He’s a man who is thin skinned, narcissistic, and entirely unfit to be the leader of this country.

He’s also the man who is responsible for putting together the most corrupt, inexperienced, and bigoted presidential cabinet in our country’s history — and it’s up to us to stop him. I know that we’ve marched by the millions across the country (and the world) in revolt against his illegitimate presidency, but that isn’t enough. We have to stand up to him and fight back to protect our democracy, which is why I created this guide. By using these five resources, we can resist Trump and engage in the political process as we’ve never done before.

I hope this guide serves as a starting point and, if you have any questions at all, please email me here and I’ll do my best to answer them. Also, if you have a resource to add, please let me know. Thank you.

The Indivisible Guide

Created by volunteers, for volunteers, this is the ultimate starting point to taking political action. Former congressional staffers set up this PDF as a simple how-to for resisting Trump, but it’s also an indispensable resource for finding direct action events near you.

Swing Left

Swing Left is a brilliant and intuitive resource for finding your nearest Swing District — the term for a district that could potentially vote in someone from either party. Within five minutes, I was able to find my nearest Swing District, sign up to volunteer, and join an email list for important announcements. We’ve only got one more year until the 2018 elections, it’s time to start the fight now.

This is your pocket guide to understanding the American political system. Follow issues you’re passionate about, find out who your senators and representatives are, leave messages, and vote “approve” or “disapprove” on any new bills.

Injustice Boycott

Shaun King created this daily action plan to resist injustice weeks before Trump took over the White House, but it’s as important as ever. Daily email actions include reading, tweeting, and direct actions that are digestible and empowering.

Resistance Manual

This is a collective resource for information on intersectional issues like Obamacare, immigration, and the Muslim ban. In the weeks and months to come, this will be an important home for information and direct actions that will resist the Trump administration. Power belongs to the people, so stay woke and read up.
