On vacations, especially in Las Vegas, hangovers seem to be easily ignored. Except for the good parts, like eating greasy brunch. Kimmi and I took a cab towards New York, New York and went to a restaurant called Avenue 24 in the MGM Grand.

We decided to being our day at Excalibur since it is across the street from MGM.

Our first stop inside was at Dick’s Last Resort, a bar and grille known for their loud and obnoxious servers and bartenders. You’ll often find restaurant patrons wearing hats made by their servers with obscenities written on them and bartenders cracking jokes while making drinks. We got drinks and headed for the slots.

Some great things happened while we were at Excalibur: a woman won $212k on a slot machine right in front of us, and we found a game we called “The Big Ass Wheel Game”, and we found a casino version of Big Bug Hunter.

Big Buck Hunter is an arcade hunting game that my buddy Chris Day and I have grown to love. He lives in New York City and whenever I visit, we generally and often find ourselves drinking beers at a dive bar aiming a toy gun at virtual deer.

Casino Big Buck Hunter has a slot machine at the bottom with a shotgun controllers on the side. The gun is hooked up to a big screen TV and used for bonus rounds. You get to play a round of Big Buck Hunter if the slot machine lands on bonus. Kimmi ended up winning about $25 dollars in bonus rounds.

Looking for a change in scenery, I wanted to try my luck on Blackjack. We began looking for a table and passed a dealer standing behind a table in front of a big vertical wheel.

Intrigued from the $1 min bet, I asked him how to play. He explained, “bet on 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, 20’s and 40’s, and if the wheel lands on the number you bet on you win your money back 1:1.”

Hot damn!

That sounded easy enough so Kimmi and I played a few rounds. It was by far the most fun game to play since it was a slow and steady “tug-o-war” between us and the dealer. Although, of course, the house got the better of us, we didn’t lose our money as quickly as we did on slots. We left without looking at the name of the game, so from that point on we called it The Big Ass Wheel Game.

As enticing as they make it, we didn’t want to spend our day in just one casino. We started down the strip back towards our hotel.
