Welcome!

Welcome to A Beginner’s Guide to Chinese Medicine!

Whether you are here to find out what your acupuncturist means when they tell you that you’ve got “Liver Qi Stagnation,” or because you wonder why they keep telling you not to put ice on your ankle, or just because you are interested in learning a little bit about Chinese Medicine, I’m glad you’re here!

We’ll be going through the basic concepts of Chinese medicine one at a time, as simply as possible, with examples and drawings. You’ll definitely want to spend a little time with the entries on Yin and Yang as well as 5 Phases before diving in, since those theories are very important to understanding everything else written about here!

If any of the entries spark your interest and you’d like to learn more, there are many, many great textbooks and translations that are available in English.

This blog is meant for educational purposes only — please don’t try to diagnose yourself from the information here! If you have a medical issue, please seek guidance and treatment from a licensed medical professional.
