I’ve had a very busy week visiting Tokyo Japan for Serverlessconf Tokyo. It was held at a venue called Tabloid in down town Tokyo with the main event being on Saturday 1st of October.

The event was organized by Shingo Yoshido of Section-9 and Peter Sbarski from A Cloud Guru.

It was a fantastic event with over 400 attendees! Unlike our last event in New York, this venue had air conditioning, which was great as it was about 30 degrees celsius that day and it was very humid!

Over 400 attendees at the conference. Some people had to watch it from the balcony in order to see.

There were some fantastic speakers at the event and some uniquely Japanese attendees!

There were some uniquely Japanese attendees!

The keynote was presented by Amazon’s Olivier Klein who talked in depth about how you can use Amazon Web Services (and in particular features such as Lambda, DynamoDb and S3) to produce Serverless applications that scale automatically. Olivier also did a live demonstration on stage of the Amazon Echo. I teach a free course on how to develop skills with Alexa on the A Cloud Guru platform if you are interested in this.

The Microsoft team did a great talk about the Azure platform.

IBM spoke about the architecture of both OpenWhisk and Bluemix

Other sponsors included Gunosy, Stylez, Recruit, Livesense, Class Method, SkyArch, Mobingi, Section-9, Web+Db Press, Ascii.jp, Think IT, ZD Net Japan, Cloudpak, EventRegist.

And I managed to do my entire presentation in Japanese. Peter spoke a bit longer though!

So that’s about it. It was a fantastic event and we will run it again in Tokyo next year. There is one more Serverlessconf for this year and it will be held in London on the 26th — 28th of October.

The speaker list for this conference is awesome and we will have talks from Patrick Debois, Charity Majors, Ian Massingham, Dr. Andreas Nauerz and Yochay Kiriaty.

I’ll be there in person, so if you’d like to meet up with me come to London Serverlessconf! Our early bird tickets have sold out, however if you’ve made it all the way to the end of this blog you can get 20% off the normal ticket price by using the coupon code “GURU20”.

Next Up, Serverlessconf London. Some tickets are still available!
