A Room Upstairs

In a room upstairs
light falls dim
off a single window

Dust moths of undesirables

lay loose on walls
breathing musty air

Opaque wallpaper

of aspirations
runs thin
peels & cracks

now turned sepia-of
once pink plumeria florals

In a forsaken
chest of memories
stored away

are neatly folded dreams
traded in for idle days

Stacked away are
disorganized maybe’s
for orderless craves

Laced in sheer linen of
some other life

Sparkles of hope sprinkled over
Locked away in nostalgic mind’s key
of could’ve beens

Today I open sunburst
of old forgotten

let light wash in

Today I unlock
weary
caged bird

Today I choose

To be free
