He unwound himself from his brother’s arms and drifted lazily in the clear water. The water was cold. Too cold, he thought and spun dreamily away. The ground beneath his feet sloped frighteningly as he neared the end, and he knew that at one point it would be too deep for him. He would find out if that was something he enjoyed, to not have something to hold on to, to be in . . . danger.

The ground beneath him suddenly dropped away. He gasped and for a moment flew, spinning like a rag-doll, until he realized something . . . and gasped again.
