Don’t try
to fix my feelings
Don’t try
to make me feel better

Your well-intentioned words
feel like salt
instead of a balm

They stifle my healing
rather than facilitate

Allow me the pain
the sorrow
the agony
even the anger

I can’t move
till I first feel and heal

Hold your fixings
Hold your advice
I just want to be
heard and understood

Slow down with me
and stay with me
I won’t be here
for too long

Just hold this cup
so that I can
empty out
and begin to heal.
