The smile you did not expect
A courteous response from a perfect stranger
A child innocently saying,
I like you
That song on the radio that reminds you
Sometimes Happiness is:
Not being told how lucky you are
Not being reminded of how things could
have been so much worse
Not be told you have another so losing this one
ain’t that bad after all
Happiness is:
The sweetness of an unexpected kiss
The bitter sweetness when long forgotten
lovers reminisce
A twist of fate in the face of a childhood
tormentor now asking for change
Happiness comes at times,
at the end of a day,
never knowing it could have ended like this
But through it all,
Happiness is the magic
of that first light of day that greets you
It is the last glimmering light that says
goodnight to you
It’s the warmth you feel when all around you
says cold
Happiness is having lost all fear of growing old
Today,
my Happiness is
Being able to share this with you
You having accepted me in your circle of life
Respecting all my single ladies
knowing they are all someone’s ideal wife
Today,
let your Happiness be
that perfect face reflected in the mirror
