Cinquain, 4 Parts

fireflies
jarred in the night
the moon watches her dance
intensified by severed hope
she waits

this breath
the one she breathes
takes on a new meaning
she must gift the world with it soon
she knows

keep watch
ebony earth
fettered creatures — still blessed
feel air upon wings, see beauty
blaze bright

for here
in this glassed cage
our hearts will keep beating,
our bodies keep burning missives
to night

*Mike and I have been collaborating for nearly every year since we have been here on Medium. Our specialties, I think, together, are structural poems or poetry in form. I love how he can write about anything and nothing is ever really a challenge for him. If you’re not reading, him, please do yourself the favor of doing so.
