Learning

A poem of rebuilding foundations

Again, I am learning to walk
in this age of every answer
Broken pieces puzzled together
an ambulant mosaic of pain

Each footfall counted corrected
conscious action in motion
A self-programming robot
defying intelligence with artifice

Again, I am learning to stand
in this age that strains the middle
Glued and sutured, spackle and paint
an aging house of ache

I remake every stick of my structure
re-engineering damaged foundations
One step forward, two back
rewinding degraded old reels

Again, I am learning to be
in this age when doing is better
Patient pieces sewn together
embroidering acceptance again

Scars whisper ‘goodbye’
acquiescing to obsolescence
Lightness rises, kite to sky
to fly a kiss to the sun
