Not My Duty

A Poem

All my hours I spend
Counting the minutes
Until this day will end.

All my days I spend
Obliged to you
And your demands
On how I live my life.

All my weeks I spend
Trying to defend
Myself from what you take
With no spirit left to fight.

All my months I spend
Dreaming of faraway lands
Where the weather is warm
Away from this storm.

All my years I spend
Wishing for more
Achieving objectives
Without satisfaction.

All my life I now spend
Making new promises —
I spend
no more time
Dreaming your dream.

Your duty
is no longer
my obligation.
