Row Has A Busy Weekend
My neighbor Row has had a rough week. I spot her on my way to my car and I say, "Hey there, Row."
She doesn't hear, "Hey there," only her name and doesn't see me, just hears my voice. I startled her. She has a Newport in between her fingers, twiddling it, cautious not to light it in my presence.
"Oh Gawd, Tre! Girl! You scared me!"
We both laugh. It is too hot for her to sit in her vehicle doing what she usually does, she announces this. But, she also has far too much to do. She announces this as well.
"I'm not sitting in that car tonight, Tre. I've had a busy week and now I have a busy weekend ahead of me."
"Oh? What of?"
She gives me a look that says, "The list is too long, but lemme tell you anyway" and tell me anyway, she does.
"I've got my family reunion this weekend. The Meet & Greet is tonight, cookout is tomorrow, my sister-in-law's baby shower is tomorrow too. Then, the pool party. *sighs* There's so much to do."
"Who you telling? I'm getting tired just listening to your list."
We laugh again. She's still twiddling that Newport, antsy to light it, but not in my presence. I know she wants to calm her nerves so I ease the atmosphere.
"Go on and get to your evening. And, be good, Row."
She shoots me a look that says, "Come on now, Tre."
She’s not gonna be good.
And, that’s okay.
